At MGM Resorts, we recognize the value of making environmentally sustainable business decisions during Design & Development. This is no truer than for energy efficiencies. Between 2009 and 2019, we constructed more than 20 million square feet of new developments certified to LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold or Platinum levels. Each property built to this standard incorporated advanced design and equipment choices to reduce long-term energy demand. 

With lighting being one of the greatest consumers of electricity across our resorts and entertainment venues, efficient lighting and electrical equipment are a core focus in our approach to energy management. We have installed over 1.4 million Light Emitting Diodes (LED) in one of America’s largest lighting retrofit projects. 

Since 2007, MGM Resorts has invested more than $68 million in energy efficiency projects. These investments have driven material progress towards our energy and climate goals. America’s largest contiguous rooftop solar array sits atop the convention center at Mandalay Bay. 

The preparation and service of food is a key component of the hospitality industry. Preventing food waste requires careful planning and when done successfully, can contribute to reducing carbon footprint and also aid in combatting food insecurity. As a core aspect of its overall material diversion program, MGM Resorts has a highly respected food waste diversion program, with source reduction at the strategy’s center and thousands of tons of food scraps to animals, compostables to compost and grease to biofuel.  

MGM Resorts combats food waste and food insecurity by collecting and preserving untouched food from resorts and providing it to those in need. Since 2016, MGM Resorts has donated more than 3.7 million meals into the community. From 2007 to 2022, across 13 Las Vegas properties, MGM Resorts diverted nearly over 300,000 tons of food waste from landfills.

MAU Vegas is partnering with Splashes of Hope at our 2024 event. All our guests are welcome to join the team from Splashes to paint a mural that will be donated to a children’s hospital/children’s wing. This partnership is our main initiative for MAU Cares – a giveback program to the community where we hold our event(s).

Splashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming medical and social service centers into welcoming, positive environments, bringing them from clinical to colorful! We also create personalized murals for homebound children suffering from medical challenges and uplift neighborhoods with artwork to brighten communities.

Since 1996, thousands of art pieces have been created to brighten and comfort millions of viewers nationwide and internationally.
